Please join us in lifting up the Sasser family in prayer as they cope with the loss of their wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Our deepest condolences to the family during this time.

Mrs. Brenda Sweat Burgsteiner Sasser, 73 of Blackshear, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, the St. Vincent's Medical Center.

Born in Jesup, GA on August 17, 1948, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. Brenda was a 1967 graduate of Blackshear High School and went on to graduate from Waycross-Ware Tech with a degree in Cosmetology. She had worked at different businesses in our area over the years before becoming a homemaker. Brenda was a true coach's wife – she was at every ballgame come rain, shine, or food poisoning! She has sat at numerous ball fields and cheered on ball players from her son, the late John Daniel "J.D." Burgsteiner, to her nieces & nephews and great nieces & great nephews. Brenda was a big New York Yankees fan and she and her husband, Wayne, watched every single game this past season. She also loved the Georgia Bulldogs and red birds. A dedicated wife, she would follow her husband to field trials and every coaching event he was a part of. Brenda, along with her sister and best friend, Elaine, loved to shop. They never passed up a sale, a TJMaxx, or a Belk. After a full day of shopping, you could find them floating in the pool. Brenda dearly loved her family and so enjoyed their beach vacations together. She was truly and deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed by them all. Brenda was a member of First Baptist Church – Blackshear – where she was in the Seeking Sisters Sunday school class.

She was a daughter of the late Cecil Sweat and Claris Isabelle Walker Sweat. She was also preceded in death by her uncle and step-father, Curtis Sweat; her first husband, Johnny Burgsteiner; her son, J.D. Burgsteiner; and a brother, Ricky Sweat.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Wayne Sasser of Blackshear; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy & Dan Bouchelle of Hurst, TX and Rena & Byron Redd of Brookhaven, MS; her sister and brother-in-law, Elaine & Joey Carter of Blackshear; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Stevie Sweat, Keith Sweat, and Scott & Paige Sweat all of Blackshear; her step-siblings; special nieces and nephews, Lindsey Sturkie of Lyons, and Chad (Brittany) Carter, & Carson Sweat all of Blackshear; great nieces and nephews who were like her grandchildren, Madi Carter, Tanner Wright, Tori Wright, Chance Sturkie, Paizly Carter, and Kayse Carter; special friends, Rita & Mark Smith of Blackshear and Cindi & Jim Sattler of St. Marys; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Brenda will be held Thursday morning, December 9, 2021, at 11:00 o'clock from First Baptist Church.
