Elijah Brown, 76, Taken By Death

Elijah Wilbur Brown, 235 1/2 Orange street, died at the age of 76 at Samaritan Hospital at 6:03 p.m. Tuesday, where he had been a patient for the past ten days.

He was born September 19, 1873, in Monroe county, Ohio, the son of Isaac and Hannah Kaylor* Brown, and had been a resident of Ashland county for 39 years. He had been engaged in farming until the last few years. In 1894 he was married to Maggie Xenia Drake, who preceded him in death in 1940. He was also preceded in death by an infant son and a daughter.

He is survived by seven sons, Thurman, Dewey and Gilbert of Ashland, Wilbur of Nova, Homer of Cleveland, Lawrence of Greenwich and Clinton of Mansfield; three daughters, Bessie McClellan and Mae Moody, both of Nova, and Thelma Latimer of Ashland; 35 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

For a number of years he was a member of the Evangelical U.B. church of Nova and lately had attended the Church of God at Eleventh and Myers avenue.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Denbow-Bear Funeral Home, with Rev. Dewey A. Ewing of Cleveland, former pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Savannah cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9.
