HAGERSTOWN--Wilbur "Bill" May, 91, a long-time Hagerstown resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1996, at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond.
He was born Feb. 7, 1905, in Henry County to Burk and Clara Keever May and had lived in Hagertown 58 years before moving to Richmond in 1988.
He attended grade school at Millville in Henry county and was a 1924 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He also attended Butler University.
He retired in 1970 as supervisor of plant loading after 42 years at the Dana Perfect Circle Plant in Hagerstown.
He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church-United Church of Christ in Hagerstown and was a charter member of Hartley Hills Country Club. He served three terms on the Nettle Creek School board of trustees and was a member of the Perfect Circle 25-Year Club. He was an Indiana High School basketball referee for 26 years and had officiated at numerous county, sectional and regional tournaments.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Franklin May, on April 9, 1996; one brother, Eugene May; and one sister, Marie Cleveland.
Survivors include one son, William B. May of Richmond; one daughter, Linda French of Natick, Mass.; three grandchildren and two nieces.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8., at the Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown with the Rev. Ray Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Brick Cemetery near Hagerstown. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.∼Parents: Burk & Clara (Keever) May
