HAGERSTOWN--Thelma F. May, 86, a long-time Hagerstown resident, died Tuesday, April 9, 1996, at Friends Fellowship Community, Richmond, after a brief illness.
She was born July 12, 1909, in Henry County to William and Mary Ann Cox Franklin and had lived in Hagerstown until moving to Richmond in 1988. She was a 1927 graduate of Spiceland High School and had attended Earlham College. She was a member of the Hagerstown Congregational Christian Church (United Church of Christ), and a charter member of the Hartley Hills Country Club, where she had been women's golf champion in 1938 and 1939.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Wilbur "Bill" May; one son, William B. May of Richmond; one daughter, Linda French of Westwood, Mass.; three grandchildren; one brother, Paul Franklin of Spiceland and two nieces.
Two sisters are deceased.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown, with the Rev. Ray Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Brick Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
