He was a retired Jefferson County police sergeant after 31 years of service, a retired U.S. deputy marshal, a founding member of the F.O.P. in Louisville and a member of Robinson Lodge No. 266 F&AM in Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Louise Hardesty Cheser.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Keith Cheser; two daughters, Deborah Cheser Cox and her husband, Michael, of Indiana and Beatina Cheser Reed and her husband, Wade, of Lawrenceburg; two sons, Bobby Mudd and his wife, Sonia, of Henry County and Mike Mudd of Louisville; his father, James Lawrence Cheser of Louisville; a sister, Marilyn Gentry of Louisville; a brother, David Cheser of Louisville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
