James proudly served in the US Army during WWII and retired from the Louisville Transit Company (TARC) after 37 years of service. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was a member of the Robinson-Plumb #266 Masonic Lodge for over 75 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise Hardesty Cheser; sons, Lewis Keith Cheser and Eugene Dorsey Cheser; granddaughter, Beatina Reed; and grandson, Bobby Mudd.
James is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Gentry (Gil); son, David Cheser (Debbie); 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Due to current Covid regulations services are private. Burial will be in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Arrangements by Newcomer - E. Louisville Chapel
