Robert E. Mathews, Jr., 72, of West Monroe died Wednesday, January 4, 1978 in the Glenwood Hospital of West Monroe.

A native of Winnfield, he had lived in West Monroe for the past 42 years. He was a retired post office employee, a member of the First Baptist Church of West Monroe, and a member of J. C. Stewart Masonic Lodge of West Monroe.

Last rites were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 7, in the funeral home chapel with the pastor of West Monroe First Baptist Church officiating, followed by full masonic service. Burial was in the cemetery in West Monroe.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Myrtle P. Mathews of West Monroe, one son, Robert W. Mathews of Los Alamos, New Mexico, one daughter, Ms. Emojean O. Mathews of Fresno, Calif., his mother, Mrs. R. E. Mathews, Sr., Route 1, Winnfield, two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Vickers of Olla and Mrs. Ollivia Doremire of Anchorage, Alaska, and three grandchildren, Sandra, Greg, and Ann Mathews of Las Alamas.

Pallbearers were members of his Sunday school class of West Monroe First Baptist Church.
