William 'Bill' Cather II, former BC Bank president/CEO, dies

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — William "Bill" Cather, II, 73, of Fairmont, peacefully passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born April 20, 1948 in Flemington.
Bill grew up on his family farm in Flemington on Berry Run Road and graduated as salutatorian from Flemington High School class of 1966. During his high school years, he was known as "The Flemington Flash" on the basketball court where he scored 65 points in one game (before the three point line existed). He was named to the first team All State Basketball squad where he led the state in scoring with an average of 37 points per game in 1966. He attended FSC where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration. He was a proud member of TKE Fraternity, where he met the love of his life. While at FSC, he was a member of the FSC basketball team, where he and only 2 other teammates finished a tournament game against WV Tech in triple overtime with a 64-59 victory in 1967. He began his banking career as vice-president of The National Bank of Monongah where he later became president. Bill also worked at WesBanco and completed his career at BC Bank in Philippi/Fairmont as president/CEO. He brought many businesses to our area and supported small businesses to thrive. He enjoyed his retirement golfing, swimming and spending time with his family. He loved to sing and dance to the oldies which led him to sing back up for the Temptations and the Four Tops. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies Rudy, Mike, Charlie, Craig, Joe, BJ and Traijon. He got his only "Hole in One" at Stonewall on hole #6 where he won a set of golf clubs. He was a loyal WVU fan and diehard Atlanta Braves fan.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Muto Cather, whom he married on May 5, 1969 and September 10, 1969. He loved her so much they did it twice. He is also survived by his four children and their spouses: Kristi and Chris Yanero, Brandi and Craig Hines, BJ and Stacey Cather and Kelly and Joe Wolford; his five grandchildren: Keri Yanero, Traijon and Natalia Cather and Rya and Adriana Hines and two grand dog, Suka and Calvin. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Ed Bice; sister-in-law Linda Cather and several nieces and nephews and close friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maxine Cather; his brother Charles Cather and his best friend, Rudy Torjak.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont.
Private services for the immediate family only will be held with Fr. Jojan Joseph and Sister Stella.
