John Perry Reed of Central, SC was the son of the late Harold William, Reed and Hattie Perry Reed. He was the grandson of John William Reed and Nan Beard Reed, and John Fletcher Perry and Edna Hathcock Perry. Mr. Reed is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his five siblings: Doris Reed (Wilson) Rushton, Harold W. (Ann) Reed, Vernelle (Jay) Hair, Rev. Rubert R. (Ellen) Reed and Margie (Wesley) Deer.
Mr. Reed, a graduate of Barnwell Public Schools, received his undergraduate work at Anderson College and the University of South Carolina. He received his Master of Church Music Degree from Erskine Theological Seminary. He taught music and drama in the Barnwell Public Schools and Hammond Academy in Columbia, SC, He taught piano and church music for many years at Anderson University. He served as organist in several churches and most recently St. John's Lutheran Church in Walhalla, SC. He was a founding member, president, and teacher at the Oconee Conservatory of Fine Arts.
Mr. Reed's funeral will be held at 11:00am on Dec. 9, 2021, at St. James Episcopal Church in Blackville, SC.
