Louis "Lou" Gene Todd passed away on October 10, 2021 at the age of 77 years. At the time of his death, he was a long-time resident of San Jose, Santa Clara County, California. He will be interred at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose, California.
He was preceded in death by his brother Allen W. Todd; brother-in-law Timothy R. Brauer, his parents Carroll Allen Todd and Dorothy Gayle Todd (nee Rogers); maternal grandparents Clarence "Pete" Rogers and Gayle B. Rogers (nee Binau); and paternal grandparents Birdett L. "Bert" Todd and Charlotte A. "Lottie" Todd (nee Beeks).

Lou was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on January 5, 1944. He was the second of five children. He attended schools in Iowa and San Jose, California. He graduated in 1962 from James Lick High School and attended San Jose City College and West Valley College in Saratoga, California.

On January 13, 1965 he enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces. He was an Army Sergeant (Spec. 5) and was stationed at Fort Ord and served in Viet Nam. He received an Honorable Discharge on October 15, 1967 but remained in the reserves until released on January 12, 1971.

On January 28, 1971, he was married in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California to his lifelong partner of 50 years. They shared a great love and deep respect for each other that was admired by friends and family alike. They worked side-by-side for years creating their dream home, raising their daughter, and enjoying time with extended family.

He worked as a draftsman and architect for several companies in the San Jose area including San Jose Water Company, General Electric and WTW. In 1993, he started his own successful business where he worked until his retirement in 2011.

He enjoyed the outdoors. He loved nothing more than ripping up the landscaping in his yard and redesigning everything. No one recalls a time when the house was "completed" because as soon as he was nearly finished, he would have 3 more projects ready to go. He may see something that would pique his interest and figure out a way to work it into his own yard, or come up with a new design to make your eyes pop. He was incredibly talented in designing and implementing his ideas into workable solutions. The house was never done for longer than a few weeks until the next idea, improvement or upgrade was begun!

Lou loved spending time with his family. All of them. He and Carole created a home where anyone was welcome, felt comfortable and were loved. They hosted numerous family gatherings that included picnics, 4th of July fireworks, barbeques, and just a place to relax. He loved to make you laugh. One of his favorite pastimes was teasing and joking with his siblings, especially about their 49'ers and Sharks!

Rest in Peace, Lou. You will be forever missed and held close in the hearts of those you left behind.
