CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: Admitted to Roxbury church in 1635 as member #151 ("Giles Paison, a single man. He married our sister Elizabeth Dowell") [RChR 82]. On 14 January 1671/2, "our brother Giles Pason was elected & called to the office of a Deacon & the Sabbath following [21 January 1671/2] he was solemnly ordained by prayer and imposition of the hands of the Elders" [RChR 210].
FREEMAN: 18 April 1637 (sixth in a sequence of six Roxbury men) [MBCR 1:373].
BIRTH: Baptized Nazeing, Essex, 14 May 1609 (aged 26 on 3 April 1635 [Hotten 46]; d. 28 January 1688/9, aged 78).

Giles Payson migrated to New England on the ship Hopewell in April 1635 at the age of 26. He was from Nazeing, made a freeman on April 18, 1637. He was "elected and called to ye office of a Deacon & ye Sabbath Following he was solemnly ordained by prayer and imposition of ye hands of ye Elders."[1][2]

Elizabeth (Dowell) Payson died at Roxbury on January 8, 1677. Gyles Payson died at Roxbury on January 28, 1688, aged 78 years. His daughters Elizabeth Brown "a widow of Boston", and Sarah Wiswall of Newton, were granted administration of his will.

Elizabeth was born at Roxbury on February 4, 1644/5, was baptized there on February 9, 1644/5. She married Hopestill Foster at Dorchester on February 15, 1666/7. She married next Edmund Brown, by 1685. Their eldest known child was born at Boston on September 16, 1685.

Sarah was baptized at Roxbury on July 16, 1648. She married Elisha Foster at Dorchester on April 10, 1678. She married second, at Dorchester, to Ebenezer Wiswall on March 26, 1685.
