Robert was a unique individual. He grew up in Muskogee, was co-owner of the Mobil gas station on North Highway 69, worked at M&M Meat Company and as a ranch hand in Montana while still in school. He later created a portable sign and advertising company. He earned his master's degree and earned his Certified Public Accountant certificate and built an accounting practice from scratch in Muskogee. His CPA office was located in Kershaw Heights on West Okmulgee, on land originally platted in 1923 by his grandfather.
He was always interested in politics, and was a candidate for the Oklahoma State Senate, District 9 (two times, once in 1984 and again in 1988) as a candidate for Muskogee County Commissioner in 1997 and he served as a delegate to the 1984 Republican National Convention in Dallas, TX.
Like his father Robert E. Kershaw, and his grandfather L. R. Kershaw, Robert raised registered Aberdeen-Angus cattle on his farm overlooking the Arkansas River near Greenleaf Lake where he enjoyed many days working to raise cattle.
We will remember him as a rugged individualist, a practical joker, an athlete and a good friend.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, his mother Liz, his son Robert L. Kershaw (Megan), his daughter Katie Kershaw Graves (Tyler) along with five (5) grandchildren, Hank & Rhett Graves of Hutchinson, KS and Nora, Griffin and Millie Kershaw of Midwest City, OK. He is also survived by his sisters Peggy Stevens of Fort Gibson, OK and Anne Kershaw Archerd (Chuck) of Ashville, North Carolina and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was buried in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Logan County, Oklahoma.
