Musician. Known in the recording industry as, "The Voice," he served as the lead singer of the American rock band, Jay and the Americans, replacing the original lead singer Jay Traynor. The group came to prominence in the early 1960's with hits such as "Cara Mia," "This Magic Moment," and their most successful single, "Come a Little Bit Closer." Following the 1969 release of their seventh studio album, Sands of Time, the band went into decline before breaking up four years later. Jay Black retained rights to the group's name and continued to perform as such for the next four decades until his diagnosis with Alzheimer's. For their musical contributions, Jay and the Americans were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.
