Shirley J. Harkins, 89, of Saint Clair, died Saturday evening at Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 5, 1932, in Frackville, a daughter of the late Joseph and Carrie Schumber Hoffman.

She was a graduate of Frackville High School.

She worked at the former Woolworth's in Pottsville for more than 30 years.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, where she was a member of Over 50, Circle 5 and the Ding-A-Ling Bell Choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Harkins Sr., in 1975, to whom she was married to 22 years; a grandson, Jeremi Harkins; four sisters, Viola Ballentine, Edna Ruping, Lois Widdoes and Larue Murphy; two brothers, William and George Hoffman.

Surviving are her children, Sandra Fessler, McAdoo, Joseph Harkins Jr. and his wife, Debbie, Schuylkill Haven, Lynn Harkins, El Paso, Texas, Pamela Panchari and her husband, Robert, Pottsville; nine grandchildren, Brad Fessler, Minersville, Mark Fessler, Gordon, Jamie Harkins, Saint Clair, Joseph Harkins III, Pottsville, Joshua Harkins, Pottsville, Timothy Marzullo, Seoul, South Korea, Eileen Marzullo, Golden Valley, Minn., Skyler Panchari, Pottsville, and Breanna Panchari, Pottsville; many great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Catherine Hoffman, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.

Service of Remembrance will be held at noon Monday from Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Shirley be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be made in Trinity Memorial Garden on the grounds of the church. Arrangements are under the care of James B. Humphrey, funeral director, James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
