Sandra, or "Sandy" as she was known to all, lived in Arlington, SD for her first 4 years. In the fall of 1950, the family moved to Lake Preston, SD. Sandy attended Lake Preston Elementary through grade 5. In the fall of 1957, the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she attended South Sioux Elementary for grade 6, Axtell Park Junior High for grades 7-9, and Washington Senior High School for grades 10-12. Some of the accomplishments she was most proud of were winning the state German Language contest during high school and her induction into the National Honor Society.
In the fall of 1963 of her senior year of high school, Sandy met the love of her life, Kenneth Bickett. Sandy and Ken were married June 6, 1964. The two made their home in Beresford, SD where Ken had grown up. In April of 1965 they welcomed their twin daughters Daneen and Dianne. In August of 1966 they welcomed their son Steven, and in October of 1968 their family was made complete with the arrival of twin sons Paul and Mark. The family relocated to Onida, SD in the spring of 1976 when Ken was promoted to foreman for East River Electric Cooperative. After Ken passed away in 1987, Sandy moved back to Sioux Falls where she took care of both of her parents.
Sandy was always a giver, and she poured her heart into her family. She loved raising her children and in later years helping care for the needs of her father and mother as they aged. She could always be found reading, she loved Robert Frost, and she loved singing when her lungs were still healthy. She had an unshakeable faith, a "can-do" pioneer spirit, and she defended the powerless throughout her entire life. She was the leading edge of the baby boom generation, and she readily owned being a strong-willed free spirit!
Sandy is survived by her five children, Daneen (Greg) Koppman of Sioux Falls, SD, Dianne (Jack) Nielsen of Beresford, SD, Steven (Tammy) Bickett of Stillwater, MN, Paul (Chris) Bickett of Middleton, WI, and Mark (Julie) Bickett of Sioux Falls, SD; thirteen grandchildren, Rachel (Travis) Cordell and son Jude of Sioux Falls, SD, Caleb Koppman and Daniel Koppman of Sioux Falls, SD, Jameson Auger of Madison, WI, Alexander Auger of Mankato, MN, Jenny Yin of Stillwater, MN, Lindsey Bickett of St. Louis Park, MN, Matthew Bickett of Mankato, MN, Elsa Bickett, Emma Bickett and Kenneth Bickett of Middleton, WI, Erin Bickett and Lauren Bickett of Sioux Falls, SD; her brother Dallas (Ruth) Glaser of Rochester, MN and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Bickett, parents Lewis and Helen Glaser and brother Gary Glaser.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, October 5 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 6 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, SD.
