On Tuesday, January 27, 2015, Phyllis Hagedorn Cohen Fineshriber of Rockville, MD. Born in Montgomery, Alabama on January 29, 1917. Graduated from Smith College and worked in the New Deal in the Treasury Department. Was an analyst and congressional liaison at the Department of Labor. An early member and leader of the National Council of Jewish Women. Also a member of Washington Hebrew Congregation, former member and secretary of the Board of Directors. An active member and program director, Woman's National Democratic Club. Worked in the office of First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. A member of Woodmont Country Club, community volunteer, philanthropist, role model, traveler, reader, consumer of culture, talented needle pointer, genealogist and above all a matriarch. Preceded in death by beloved husbands Maynard I. Cohen and Howard W. Fineshriber; devoted mother of Lawrence F. (Lucy) Cohen, Alan P. (Linda) Cohen, Robert M. (Amy Katz) Cohen, Bruce H. (Betsy) Cohen, Barbara F. Adler, Frank (Christa) Fineshriber; cherished grandmother of Claire, Todd, David, Jason, Nancy, Gregory, Scott, William, Lynne and Craig; great-grandmother of Chloe, Alexander, Anna, Isabella, Emilia, Brooks, Sarah, Jordan, Peter, Julia, Benjamin, Joshua. Also survived by Perpetua "Peppy" Nyagetera-Matthews, Caregiver, and devoted friend. Funeral services, Sunday, February 1 at 3 p.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb St., N.W., Washington, DC. Interment and Shiva are private. Donations may be made to the Maynard I.
