"Each school child who knows his history of Louisiana knows that it was Honore Perigny Morancy, a state senator, who named the north-eastern parish "Carroll", in 1832. The Morancy brothers came to south Louisiana to make their way. Honore as a teacher and Emile as a dcctor. But they soon moved to Vicksburg, Miss., to enter business. They prospered as merchants and eventually were able to acquire large land holdings across the Mississippi river at Milliken's Bend, where they began to reside in the early 1830's. Here they grew wealthy. Honore became a state senator (married Eliza Jane Lowry). Emilius Morancy married Agnes Kincaid. From Carroll Parish records of Feb. 2, 1837, we read that Emilius Morancy, father of Ann Victoria and Charles Carroll Morancy, moved from Mississippi to Carroll parish in 1828. His wife Agnes died on July 18, 1835 and Emilius prayed the court of Probates that an under Tutor be appointed for the minor children. A meeting at the house of Honore P. Morancy , Feb. 13, 1837 to deliver upon and give their opinion whether it was for the advantage of said minors that the property of 322 acres be adjudicated to said Emilius Morancy. A son, Emilius Morancy, Jr., died after his mother's death. It was acknowledged to the best interest of the minors to have the property adjudicated to the father, Emilius Morancy.
