On April 22, 1949, Vernial married Doris Arlene Hall in Rockford, and they went to Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 16, 1954. Vernial was a farmer, leased ground in Mountain Home and ultimately purchased 320 acres that he farmed and improved for 25 years. He sold the farm and moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ. where they owned and operated a portable toilet business they called Jack-Pots. He was very active in his community serving as President of Farm Bureau, member of El-Y-Hee beet growers, President of the rural firefighters and a member of American Angus Association. He also was a teachers aid for nine years at Kimberly Elementary. He and Doris served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Micronesia from 2000 to 2002. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor. He canned 52 pints of salsa and 40 quarts of peaches, as well as drying gallons and gallons of his apples. He also enjoyed woodworking toy making, bowling, skiing,and square dancing. He loved technology and always impressed the younger generation with what he could do. Survivors beside his wife of 72 years included: children Jan (Rebecca) Hawkes, Debra Hawkes, Francee (Scott) Stevenson, Lorie Farris and Lisa (Corey) Hansen; sisters Afton Shawver and Orva Nelson; and 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; precedied by brothers Roland, Mertin, and Jay Hawkes and sisters Ruth Scott and Virginia Charlesworth. Funeral services were held Friday, October 15th at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot and on October 16th at the LDS Stake Center at 3850 N 3500 East om Kimberly.
