John Witherspoon was born May 4, 1785 in Ireland and was married Nov. 18, 1813 to Margaret Kennedy, daughter of Samuel Kennedy and Frances Bowles. He died 28th of July, 1867 at Frankfort Springs (near the state line west of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania) Margaret was born in 1793 at Service, another small town just north of Frankfort Springs. She died at Frankfort Springs, Pennsylvania December 13, 1860.
Their daughter, Drusilla and her children, lived with them during their later years when her mother's parents were in need of her assistance.
John had built a large brick home in Frankfort Springs where he also had pens and facilities to take care of herds of animals as they were being driven to markets in the East. He also had rooms for the drivers. They all loved their church very much and attended services regularly.
