Carmen Marie Elordi Acarregui, 98, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, in Boise of natural causes. Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Jordan Valley, Oregon. Burial will follow at the Jordan Valley Cemetery. Arrangements are by Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Carmen was born in Delamar, Idaho on July 16, 1909. She was the second of 12 children born to Damaso Elordi and Gregoria Cabot Elordi, Basque immigrants from Spain. The Delamar mines closed in 1910 and the Elordi's moved to Jordan Valley to start in the sheep business, spending the summer months at "Sheep Camp", the family homestead at the headwaters of Cow Creek in Owyhee County. Carmen graduated from Jordan Valley High School in 1929, then attended college in LaGrande. In 1935, she was married to Floyd Acarregui in Walla Walla, Wash., later moving to the San Francisco area. In 1948, the couple returned "home" to Jordan Valley with their two children, James and Paula. They started in the sheep business, then bought a service station and built a motel in Jordan Valley. They purchased farms in Washington, constructed the Cabana Inn in Boise, developed property in Sun Valley, and enjoyed other business ventures. The Acarregui's spent many of their last years residing in Las Vegas, Nev. Carmen is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd and five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by two brothers, John and Floyd Elordi, her son James and daughter Paula Slippy, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the I.O.N.
