Marjorie Malone Hardee

Abbeville - Marjorie Malone Hardee - beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother - died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday, Dec. 3, at her home in Abbeville. She was 87.

We celebrate her life on Earth, knowing with certainty that she is in Heaven with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her earthly vessel grew frail, but her Heavenly Body never will. She dances with the saints, her mother, and all those she loved who preceded her in death. We are thankful that Margie went Home peacefully and naturally. She lived with joy and with the close support of her family until her death.

A native of Lena, Margie retired from Pinecrest State School where she was the supervisor of the sewing factory. She lived her life with grace, compassion and a deep love for family. Uplifting, supporting and encouraging, Margie always found goodness in others. She gave unconditionally to family and friends.

Margie spent the last twenty-two years of her life in Abbeville, sharing a home with her eldest son. The two were inseparable: attending St. Theresa Catholic Church, hitting garage sales, sampling the local restaurants, and playing penny slots at the nearby casino. Each night before bed, they enjoyed samples of Cajun Country's finest sweets. She was an avid reader until health issues interfered; she then learned to maneuver a computer to play games and catch up on the daily news. Margie loved to dance, had a green thumb for plants, and was an exceptional cook. Her turkey dressing for Thanksgiving dinner was an annual blessing.

Although she didn't live close to her three younger children, she did not allow a week to pass without contact. If they didn't call her, she found them. She is survived by three sons, Jerry Darl Hardee, Kenneth Wayne Hardee and Curtis Wade Hardee; one daughter, Edith Janiece Hardee Wheeler and son-in-law, Steven G. Wheeler; one brother, Bennie George Malone and sister-in-law, JoAnn Malone.

She has six grandchildren - Vicki Hardee Sullivan, Amy Hardee Newell, Janna Carline Hardee, Leslie Wheeler Pierce, Jessica Wheeler Nations, and Matthew Hardee; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

Margie was preceded in death by her mother, Maggie BeBee Malone; father, George Elbert Malone; stepmother, Mae Salard Malone; sisters, Juanita Powers and Melba Lynn Herring; brother, James Elbert Malone; daughter-in-law, Connie M. Hardee; granddaughter, Jennifer Janiece Hardee.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home (2701 Military Highway, Pineville, La.) on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Services will begin at 10:00 a.m.
