Ruth M. Abrams, 80

Chester - Ruth M. Abrams, 80, of Indiana Avenue, died at 9:37 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in the emergency room at City Hospital after becoming ill at home. She was born in Massillon, Ohio, April 6, 1920, a daughter of the late Ephraim and Estella Aumiller Smith. In her earlier years, she worked as an inspector at a Munitions Plant in New York. She later worked at National Church Supply in Chester. A homemaker for most of her life, she was a member of a non-denominational church in Youngstown. She graduated from Canal Fulton High School in 1939. She was a former member and past president of the Chester Elementary PTA as well as a former member and past president of Oak Glen High School Band Boosters. She served with the Navy Waves during World War ll. She is survived by her husband, John Abrams, whom she married March 14, 1948; two sons, Hugh Abrams of Chester and Jay Abrams of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Larry (Christina) Snyder of Chester, three brothers, Loyd Smith of Dayton, Carl Smith of Texas and Fred Smith of Smithville; three sisters, Inez Stasko of St. Louis, Mo., Alice Witt of Akron and Lucy Turgen of Modesto, Calif,; and a granddaughter, Jessica Snyder of Chester. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Smith and Kenneth Smith. Tim Vaughn and Curtis Bauske of the church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
