Dora Camarena Soto
AKA Dora Salazar De Camarena
July 25, 1924 - August 30, 2021
Calexico, CA
On August 30, 2021, our beloved Dora Camarena Soto left this earth for a new beginning in Heaven at the age of 97. Dora was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Dora was preceded in death by her three sons: Eduardo (Lalo), Ernesto (Neto), Enrique (Kiki), and survived by her six daughters, Bertha, son-in-law Gilbert, Norma, son-in-law Larry, Myrna (Patty), Sandra, Lourdes, Diana and son-in-law Ernie, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Dora was born on July 25, 1924, in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. At seven days old, Dora and her family moved to Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Dora eventually immigrated to the United States in 1956.

Although Dora weathered many storms in life, she leaves a legacy of courage, resiliency and strength. Through tragedies and heart-wrenching losses, Dora lost her oldest son Lalo at the age of 21 on September 17, 1965, while he served in the Vietnam War. Then on February 7, 1985, Dora lost her youngest son Kiki at the age of 37 to the Drug War. On October 2, 2014, Dora buried her middle son Neto.

Dora was always the pillar of strength and comfort for her family. Her unwavering dedication and commitment was seen through her exemplary service to the Red Ribbon Campaign where Dora worked tirelessly to raise awareness, honoring Kiki's legacy. As part of the campaign, she traveled throughout the United States and internationally, to speak to school age children about the dangers of drug abuse.
