Carrie B. Spence, 92 of Dugspur, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Heritage Hall-Laurel Meadows. Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Euell Spence; parents Madison & Mary Bowman; and children John, Daniel, Arden, David & Edward Spence. She is survived by her daughters & son-in-law Carolyn Sue & Joe Stanley of Meadows of Dan and Lena Mae Webb of Laurel Fork; sons & daughter-in-law Byrun (Slick) Spence of Dugspur and J.D. & Linda Spence of Woodlawn; sisters Lucy Thomas of Patrick Springs and Nancy Mabry of Collinsville; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Carrie was remembered for her great love of sewing, quilting and her love for others. Her gift of great faith that she had in Jesus was demonstrated to her children for many years. Of the many gifts she gave, one of the greatest was the gift of love. "He Only Takes the Best . . . God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her and whispered, "Come with me." With tear-filled eyes we watched her suffer and fade away. Although we love her deeply, we could not make her stay."

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Michael Sutphin, Rev. Robert R. Tolar and Rev. Neil Eidson officiating. Burial will follow in the Spence Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
