Edward Burquez Sr. Edward Burquez Sr., 88, died Sunday at his Napa home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Burquez was born in Nogales, Ariz., on Dec. 12, 1902, to Edward C. and Donaciana (Sanchez) Burquez. He was educated in the Nogales school system.
Mr. Burquez had been a shoe repairman in Napa since 1935 and was the owner and operator of Taylor Shoe Repair on First St. in the Native Sons building.
He married Alice Grijalva on June 3, 1951, in Napa.
As a young man, he was a member of the Improved Order of Redman. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
He enjoyed reciting poetry in Spanish and spending all holidays with his family.
Mr. Burquez is survived by his wife, Alice G. of Napa; four sons, Edward Jr. of Watsonville, Herbert of St. Helena, and Richard and Christopher, both of Napa; six daughters, Lupe Burquez, Georgia Reyes, Ofelia LaLonde and Amelia Johnson, all of Napa; Yolanda Dillon of Yountville and Ida Weber of Vallejo; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a rosary service tonight at 7:30 at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel, 623 Coombs St. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel with Rev. Timothy O'Sullivan, pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Napa, officiating. Interment will be at Napa Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel today from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
