John May, Fourth child of Nine, Third born Son of Seven of Johann (John) and Francisca (Francis) (Schmelzer) Melcher.

Brother of Martin, Joseph, Caroline (Van Ackeren), Francisca (Hanke), Frederick, Henry, Jacob and Bernard Melcher.

Husband of Elizabeth Winkler, whom he married on February 10, 1892 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, in St. Bernard, Nebraska.

Father of Thirteen children whom are: Frank, George, Lillian (Dahlheim), Edward, William, Gilbert, Henry, Josephus, Mathilda, Teresia, Mathilda (Korth), Walter and Charlotte (Overbay).

According to Church records J. Melcher (Father) was an early settler to St. Bernard Twp. (Lindsey, Nebraska) 1873-1874.

My mother remembers John as being really tall, (6'2") with a bald top and a beard, just like his father. She remembers going and spending the weekends with them as a child. She said he was a nice grandpa.
