David Seth Hornbeck, Jr.

1943 - 2021

David Seth Hornbeck, Jr., 77, passed away May 22, 2021 due to illness.

David was born September 10, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas to Welma Ann Campbell Hornbeck and David Seth Hornbeck, Sr. He was an only child growing up in a military family, eventually settling in Sacramento, California. He graduated from Claremont College with a BS in Economics. He also obtained a Bachelor of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and an MS in Library Science. He made his career of nearly 40 years at the University of Utah Marriott Library, retiring in 2009. He married Alice Francis March 20, 1982 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

David was extraordinarily kind and gentle. He had wonderful manners and engaged the affection of most who met him. He was a proud descendant of old New York Dutch heritage and a lifelong member of the Holland Society. He served as lector of All Saints Episcopal Church for many years. He volunteered at the Pantry of St. Paul and was also an usher and greeter there.

David was of delicate health and suffered several operations throughout his life. Yet he always fought vigorously and courageously to press forward.

David is survived by his wife, Alice, his daughter, Cynthia Mickleson (Ryan), and his stepdaughter, Claire Francis (Clark Clements).

We wish to express our appreciation and gratitude to all our wonderful friends and neighbors for their thoughtful and generous understanding and support. We also express our gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers that generously assisted David along his healthcare journey.

Memorial services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and will be announced at a later date.
