A Tribute, 1886
Mrs. Sophia Clarke departed this life on January 6, 1886 after a brief illness of eight days. She was the daughter of Mr. Daniel and Mrs. Nellie Carter, born January 31, 1830 and became a wife of Mr. John Clarke, Feb. 19th 1851. The 35 years of their married life was happily spent. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke were both born in this county and lived on a farm called Rock Hill ever since their marriage. She was buried in the family graveyard, adjoining the garden. A very large assemblage of relatives and friends attended the funeral service which was conducted at the house by Rev. W. W. Smoot, January 8th at 2:30 o'clock p.m.
