Aaron Waddle served in Company K. 8th Illinois United States Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish American War. They were the first regiment to have all African American Officers. They served in Cuba from Aug 16, 1898 until March 10, 1899. On Jan 30, 1901 Aaron received an Army Invalid Pension for his service in the Spanish American War.

He was the son of John and Elizabeth Waddle of Jerseyville, IL and the elder brother of Oscar, James, Elta, and Annie. When he registered for the draft in 1917 he was recorded as 44 years old, born in Jerseyville, IL. Oct 2, 1874. He was black, 5'6" tall of slight build, he resided at 210 Lovejoy St. Jerseyville, and was employed by the Jersey Ice & Fuel Co.
