Helen Elizabeth Eschbacher passed away Wednesday, August 25 in Sedalia, just two days shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born August 27, 1928, in Morrison, Missouri, the sixth child of Martin and Veronica Schneider.

Her family moved to Sedalia in 1933 where she attended St. Patrick's Catholic School. Later, when the family moved to Warrensburg, she attended University High School where she was drum majorette and lead baton twirler. After moving back to Sedalia, she graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1946. Shortly thereafter, she became one of the first lay teachers at the elementary school. In 1950 she married William Jean Eschbacher, at Sacred Heart Church. Their marriage was blessed with five children.

Helen was crowned Mrs. Centennial Queen, during the 1960 Sedalia Centennial Celebration. In the late 60's, she was active in several community charity groups, including Church Women United and the Sedalia Human Rights Commission. She was a charter member of the Five Ecumenical Churches group that founded the Open Door Service Center in 1972. Helen served as its Chairman of the Board for several years and volunteered at the center for 23 years. She was employed by J.C. Penney Co. for fifteen years, and managed the cosmetics department at the front of the store when it moved to the Thompson Hills Shopping Center.

Helen loved singing, dancing and acting. She was involved with or performed in several Sedalia Community Theatre productions, many at the Liberty Center. She was a member of the Sedalia Harmony Chorus, Sweet Adeline's, and for several decades sang in the choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Helen had unconditional love and devotion to her husband Bill, and their five children. God and her Catholic faith defined her joyful life of daily prayer and discipleship. She will be dearly missed by each of her children for whom she has always been a constant and dependable source of love, comfort, compassion, and wonderful companionship.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; Martin and Veronica Schneider; her husband of 62-years, William J. Eschbacher; siblings Adelaide Bopp, Margaret Woolery, George Schneider, Leoba Schneider and Maurice Schneider. She is survived by her son Joseph Eschbacher (Krista), Thomas Eschbacher (Diane) of Sedalia, daughter Jean Malsam (Mike) of Sugar Land, TX, son Mark Eschbacher (Tish) of Glenmoore, PA, and daughter Linda Gockel (Dan) of Austin, TX; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 3, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Chapel with Father Mark Miller officiating. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Sedalia, MO, in care of Mclaughlin Funeral Chapel.
