Sarah Emma Allen, daughter of Ephraim and Sarah (Taylor) Allen, was born November 27, 1862 in Delaware County, Ohio. The family moved to Jay County, Indiana about 1866. There, on February 22, 1980, Sarah married John T. Lyons, son of Thomas and Amanda (Templeman) Lyons. Sarah and John T. Lyons had one child, Allen Ephraim Lyons, born January 3, 1881. John T. Lyons bought land in Kansas and moved there in 1883 leaving Sarah and their son Allen in Indiana.

On December 24, 1884 in Pike Township, Jay County, Indiana, Sarah married John R. Lyon, a son of John and Nancy (McVicker) Lyon. He was a lumberman living in Grant County, Indiana. It was his first marriage. Sarah and John R. Lyon had one child, Doris Lyon, born in March of 1886, who married Samuel Boze in Jay County on November 26, 1904. Sarah and John R. Lyon parted sometime before December of 1897. In 1914 it was reported that at that time, John R. Lyon was living in Dodson, Montana.

On December 1897 in Jay County, Sarah married Charles F. Birch, Sr., son of George and Jane (Jackson) Birch, a mold maker in the glass industry, and resident of Dunkirk, Indiana. It was the third marriage for both of them. Charles died at their home in 1925.

Sarah moved to Pueblo, Colorado where her son, Allen E. Lyons, and his family were living. On November 17, 1933 in Pueblo, Sarah married Frank G. H. Anlauf, son of Carl R. G. and Marie E. Anlauf, native of Berlin, Germany, and a printer for a newspaper in Pueblo. It was his second marriage.

Sarah (Allen) Anlauf died in Pueblo on September 9, 1953. Her death notice says that she was the mother of Allen Lyons of Pueblo and Doriz Boze of Hampton Bays, New York, that she had five grandchildren, and that she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Dunkirk, Indiana.
