Sumner Barnes Taken By Death


Charles Sumner Barnes, 83, died at Forest Park hospital in Davenport Wednesday evening, May 6 after an illness of the past several years.The son of Oscar and Luella (Tullis) Barnes, he was born Oct. 26, 1875 near Denmark, Ia. in Lee County. A resident of Mt. Pleasant for many years, Mr. Barnes had lived in Davenport since the death of his wife, Anna on August 5, 1957.He is survived by two sons, Guy Barnes, Davenport, William Barnes, Battle Creek, Mich., one daughter, Mrs. Belle Mace, Klamath Falls, Oregon, two brothers Lisle and Earl Barnes of Mt. Pleasant and several grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at the R. K. Crane Funeral Home with Rev. E. A. Mathews, associate pastor of the First Methodist church officiating.The family will receive friends at the R. K. Crane Funeral Home Friday evening from 7:30 to 9.
