Richard Kent Brown, age 70, our loving husband, son, father, grandpa and friend, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep November 23, 2007, at his daughter's home in Arizona. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family. Dick was born January 21, 1937, in Annabella, Utah, to Virge and Lillian Daniels Brown. He grew up on a farm in Annabella and was close to his brother, Roger, with whom he loved to go up on Cove Mountain to camp, hunt and fish. He graduated from South Sevier High School, where he played baseball and basketball. Dick served an LDS mission in the Southwest Indian Mission and carried a love for the Navajo people throughout his life.

He attended BYU, where he met the love of his life, Lanette Louise Berrett, in an abnormal psychology class. Dick and Lannie were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 25, 1962, the same day they graduated from BYU. Dick then attended "that school up north," where he earned a master's degree in social work. After graduating, he first worked for the Veteran's Administration in Montana, and then spent 26 years working for LDS Social Services in Utah, Illinois and Arizona. He was then employed by IHC in St. George, Utah, as a medical social worker for Home Health Hospice. He retired in 2000. Dick loved sports, and his favorite teams were BYU, Yankees, Bears, and Suns. He instilled a love of sports in his children and never missed their games. He also enjoyed family activities such as hunting, fishing, going to the beach, traveling and going on cruises. He loved to plan trips as much as he liked going on them. Dick served faithfully in many positions in the LDS Church, right up to the end of his life. His last calling was director of temple lighting for the St. George Temple. He also selflessly served his family, and over the past several years devoted himself to the care of his elderly father.

Dick is survived by his wife, Lannie, of St. George; his children, Lori (Les) Casey of Enterprise, Utah; Eric (Lisa) of Houston; Kent (Elizabeth) of St. George; Joel (Missy) of St. George; Kyle (Laurie) of St. George; Jill (Jason) Briggs of Phoenix; and Jodi (Jason) Curtis of St. George; 34 grandchildren; his father, Virge, of Annabella; sisters-in-law Gloria Brown and Vicki Alexander; and brother-in-law Denney (Lorene) Berrett. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian; brother, Roger; parents-in-law, Lyman and Louise Berrett; and brother-in-law, Mike Alexander.

A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, and on Thursday from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
