Albia, Iowa
Friday, January 17, 1913
Martha Lockard was born February 19, 1833, in Jefferson county, Ohio. In 1867 she removed with her parents to Johnson County, Mo., and was married in 1872 to George W. Speer. A few years later they removed to Clarion County, Penn., where they remained until his death, which occurred in 1878. To this union was born one son, Mr. Ross Speer, of this city. Mrs. Speer came to Albia about 9 years ago where she resided until her death January 13.
There remains to mourn her loss besides her son are one brother, John Lockard, and a niece, Mrs. O'Conner of Des Moines, who was present at the funeral.
Her body was taken to Chariton for burial.
Mrs. Speer early gave her heart to the Saviour and joined the United Presbyterian church and lived a faithful consistent life.

MRS. MARTHA SPEARS (Speer)
Mrs. Martha Spears (Speer) died Monday at her home in Albia, after an illness of only a few hours with heart trouble. She had been about her household duties and attended church on Sunday and her death came as a shock to her friends and relatives. She was a former resident of this city, before going to Albia about six years ago.
She leaves one son, Ross, with whom she made her home. She had reached the age of 79 years and six days and her life had been spent in usefulness and devotion to her family and friends. The remains were brought to Chariton and interment made in the Waynick cemetery.
There is no grave marker for her.
