OBITUARY

ELIZABETH M GVOZDAS

Elizabeth M. (Buynak) Gvozdas, 97, a former resident of the North End section of the city, passed into the eternal life Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at the home of her son, Peter; in Prosperity, S. C.
born Nov.14, 1918, in Wiles-Barre, she was the last surviving member of 10 children of the late Nicholas and Sophia (Fristky) Buynak. She was a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak roman Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre, prior to its merger into St. Andre Bessette Parish, and was educated in the former Sacred Heart Parish School.
Mrs. Gvozdas was conscientious in attending church services and especially those when her children were participants. She is remembered for her enjoyment in watching the daily Mass, action movies and "General Hospital" on television. She also enjoyed polkas and czardas dancing in her youth. She was a wonderful cook, especially of traditional Slovak recipes and enjoyed sharing her culinary skills with her children. She was undeniably a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; her family was the focus of her life.
She was receded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Peter P. Gvozdas, on July 8, 1981; by brothers, Stephen, John, Bernard, Nicholas, Joseph, Michael, George and Frank Buynak; by a sister Sophia "Josephine" Buynak; and a granddaughter, Christine Marie Gvozdas.
She is survived by three sons, Mr. Joseph M./ Gvozdas and his wife, Kathleen, Columbia, Md.; Peter D. Gvozdas and his wife, Carolyn, Prosperity, S. C.; and Richard P. Gvozdas and his wife Janice, Summerlin, Nev.; 11 grandchildren, including Joseph, David, Susan, James, Peter, Jason, Arianne, Scott, Gregory, Melissa, and Justin; 12 great grandchildren, Jessica, Bryn, Cole, Isabelle, Sophia, Margaret, Mary Scott, Clara, Hayden, Connor, Chloe, and Tala; and numerous nieces, Nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gvozdas will be conductedat9:30 a.m. Monday from the North Wilkes Barre location of John V. Morris family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 N. Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Andre Bessette Parish, 668 N. Main St.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery of St. Andre Bessette Parish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may join her family for visitation and remembrances from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
