A brother, Bill Dye, 17, recovered the body about 40 minutes later when he dived to disentangle it from roots of an old tree at a depth of about 10 feet. The drowning was the fourth in the Charleston vicinity within six days. The brother found the body while rescue crews of the Charleston and South Charleston Fire Departments were dragging the stream several hundred yards west of the Patrick Street bridge.
Surviving also are seven sisters: Mrs. Leewood Courtney of Blue Creek; Mrs. Scott Wright of St Albans; and Mrs. Beatrice Smith, Mrs. Fred Copenhavcr and Katherine, Juanita and Pauline Dye; of Bownemont; two other brothers, Charles and Virgil Dye; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hardwick of Spring Hill.
