John Paternoster Squires was the son of Thomas Squires and Sarah Paternoster. When young he learned the barber trade and moved to Putney, England to work where he met Catherine Harriet Fell. They were married August 23, 1843. In 1847 they were baptized into the LDS Church and came to America in 1853 where they settled in Salt Lake City. Together they had 8 children, 4 of whom died young. John was Brigham Young's personal barber, and stayed with this trade his whole life. He went on to marry 3 more times after Catherine died. His last wife Emily Swain is buried next to him and Catherine in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
