Edwin was part of Battery B, the 119th Field Artillery, 32nd Division in the Battle of the Argonne Forest. He was killed in action on the 2nd day of General John Pershing's attack on the Germans, known as the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Edwin was one of approximately 117,000 Americans and 70,000 French soldiers that lost their lives in the offensive. That 47-day push was of major significance, and continued until the end of the war on November 11, 1918.
