She was beloved by her three daughters, Jennifer Smith, Dawn Cocco and Karen Davis; and by her 17 grandchildren and 25-plus great-grandchildren.
In addition to her immediate and extended family, Kathryn had a great love for all the lives she touched as a teacher for 25 years at Fairview Elementary School, a youth group leader at Cullowhee United Methodist Church for 20 years, and a Girl Scout leader in both Florida and North Carolina.
She was an active member of the Cullowhee United Methodist church for more than 50 years. During that time, she served in many roles, including teaching in the pre-school, singing in the choir, leading the youth group, teaching Sunday school, and serving in various administrative roles. She was active in the Walk to Emmaus, Journeys and Chrysalis programs and found great joy in singing with the Western Carolina Community Chorus. In recognition for her community involvement, Kathryn was awarded the Governor's Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding citizen involvement and exemplary volunteer service to her community.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a time when the family can all be together
