A lifetime Mantua area resident, Marilyn was a graduate of Mantua High School in 1949, following which she attended Hiram College, graduating in 1952 with her BA in Education. She began her teaching career in 1952 at Crestwood Schools, retiring from there in 1994.
A longtime active member, and Elder of the Mantua-Center Christian Church, she was a church youth leader, and served her church in numerous ways whenever called upon over the years. Marilyn was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Ohio Education Association, Mantua Grange and Farm Bureau and the Mantua Restoration Society. Marilyn was an accomplished artist in water colors and oils, as well as pencil drawings. Life on the farm and historical local buildings were the subject of many of her art works, a reflection of her love for both farm life and appreciation of the value of historical buildings. Marilyn enjoyed the trips that she and Norm took in their RV to Alaska, Nova Scoia, and their travels to Mexico and spending time in the winter months in Florida.
Survivors include her 4 sons, a brother & sister, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
On December 20, 1952, she married her beloved husband Norman D. Alger who preceded her in death on February 15, 2012. Her sister Wilma Quantrille also preceded her in death.
At her request, cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held Sunday October 18, 2015 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday November 7, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at the Mantua Center Christian Church, 4118 St. Rt. 82,Mantua Township, Ohio with Pastor Chad Delaney officiating. Family and friends are invited to a time of fellowship and luncheon at the church following her memorial service. Final resting place at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Township is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the church.
