Elma was born at home on December 31, 1922, the first of ten children, in Angier, NC to the late Lottie Morton Smith and Milton Roy Smith. She is preceded in death by two sons, both born in Raleigh NC, Calvin Mack "Little Mack" Smith III who passed prior to two years old and Timothy Joe Smith who passed at birth. She is also preceded in death by sisters Patricia Ator of Texas, Foy Weathers of Fuquay Varina, NC and Peggy Smith of Robbins, NC; brothers, Edsel Smith of Texas, Cecil Smith and Odell Smith of Spring Lake, NC and Philip Wray Smith who passed a few months after birth.
Elma leaves her family to cherish her memory. Her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Miller and husband Donald Miller of Spring Lake, granddaughter Victoria "Tori" Miller McLeod and husband Justin McLeod of Biscoe, NC; brother, Jerry Smith and family of Angier NC, and brother Milton "M.R." Smith also of Angier NC.
Elma lived life for 98 years to the fullest She was strong, independent, crafty, and loved to eat a delicious meal or tasty dessert. She would always be ready for any type of adventure or road trip and loved to get her hair and nails done as much as she loved to watch TV "with her eyes closed". When she was younger she loved embroidery and sewing and taught classes at the Spring Lake Senior Citizen Center for 25 years. Most of all, she loved her family and did all she could to make sure they were always happy. She was truly a special lady that will be missed terribly by her family and all who had the fortune to cross her path in life.
There will be a graveside service honoring Elma's life on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:00am at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC 27603.
