Funeral Services for Pete Bearshield, 71, Arapaho resident will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August18, 2021 in the Memorial Chapel, officiated by Gerald Panana. Burial will follow in the Clinton Indian Cemetery .
A Wake Service will be held 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 in the Chapel.
Pete Bearshield was born June 4, 1950 to Willie and Bertha (Thunderbull) Bearshield in the Old Indian Hospital in Clinton, OK and passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 in his Arapaho home.
Pete was raised in Clinton and attended Clinton and Chilocco Indian School. He continued his education at the Jr. College in Warner, OK and Oklahoma University in Norman, OK. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in February of 1969. He spent a stint in Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star and the Vietnam Medal with the Rifle Marksman badge. He was honorably discharge in May of 1971.
He is a member of the Koinia Indian Mennonite Church.
He was employed with the Indian Health Services and received the Employee of the month at the Clinton Indian Health Center in December of 2008. He served as an officer in the Vietnam Veterans Association North West Chapter. He also served as chairman of the Labor Day Pow-Wow that was held in Colony, OK each year.
He formed the "Magic" Handgame team which he was team captain of in 1999. The team was state handgame champions in 2000 and again in 2018. He traveled to Montana for over 35 years to participate in the Sr. Handgame Tournament. He was championship guesser in 1988 and was the first to put Oklahoma team on record. He was champion again in 2005.
He was married to love of his life, after a four year relationship, Agatha Gayle Mithlo on February 26, 1990 in Arapaho, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mary Louise Bearshield, grandson, Chazarae Bearshield; brothers, Leonard Bearshield, Luke Bearshield and sister, Betty Lou Bearshield, step sons, Kenneth Satepauhoodle..
He is survived by his wife, Gayle of the home, two sons , William Bearshield, Weatherford, OK, Reginald Bearshield, Clinton, OK and daughter, Jennifer Bearshield, Weatherford, OK; he gained five more children with the marriage to Gayle; Douglas Goombi, OKC, OK, Rusty Satepauhoodle, Kendric Satepauhoodle, all of Apache, OK and DeeNita Statepauhoodle, Arapaho, OK.
He is also survived by his brother, Alton Bearshield, Clinton and two sisters, Mary Beaver, OKC , OK and Alice Marquez, El Reno, OK; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great grand children and a numerous relatives and friends. He has relatives that lives in Montana on both the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations; a special granddaughter whom he loved dearly.
