Evelyn Barbara Jenkins
Evelyn Barbara Jenkins was born August 21, 1930 in Downers Grove, Illinois to Fred and Minnie Lester. She went on to be in heaven with her beloved husband Edward "Bud" and her son Bill on August 14, 2021. She is survived by her remaining children Ed, Bob, Barbara, Nancy, and their families, including numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who feel blessed to have had her in their lives.
What can you say about a woman that lived ninety years through most of the twentieth century and twenty years of the next. In her 90 years she experienced many things and many life changes. She was born in the depression era, then came WWII, where her four brothers all served in the military as well as her husband and father. Her family's life of service prompted Evelyn to also serve her country as President of the Women's Auxiliary of VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars).
She graduated from Downers Grove North High School in 1948. The same year she met her future husband, Ed "Bud" Jenkins. They were married on September 16, 1950, in Downers Grove, Illinois. They truly were meant for each other, and they both admitted it was love at first sight. From this union they received their greatest treasures; their five children who were born over the next 7 ½ years. Theirs was an incredible story of sacrifice, love and family. While Bud worked 24-hour shifts Evelyn had a full plate at home raising five children, running multiple businesses alongside her family, as well as supporting Bud in his vast life achievements.
Evelyn could be described as the rock of her family. She was a faithful and devoted wife, as well as an extraordinary mom, grandma and great grandma who was fun, caring, and compassionate. Among the most precious of memories are the annual family vacations throughout the western United States and Canada. It was during these travels that she fell in love with Idaho. In 1976, Bud and Evelyn began the next chapter in their family's life by moving to Boise.
After 62 years of marriage, she lost her husband, Bud. Her life after that was never the same. We take solace knowing that they are now reunited in heaven. I imagine he picked her up at the gates of heaven in the same car as the day they met; a 1941 Chevy Master Deluxe Coupe.
She enjoyed family, friends and of course, her dog Bailey. She gave us the greatest gift of all, unconditional love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
