Roger Arthur Long, son of Myra E. & Robert H. Long was born Jan. 4, 1891 near Grant, Iowa. He departed this life at his home south of Creston on Dec. 30, 1950 at the age of 59 years.
He was united in marriage to Abbie V. Lyon on Feb. 14, 1913. to this union three children were born: Raymond A. of Creston, Mrs. Winifred Burdette, of Leon and Howard D. at home.
He came shortly after his marriage to the farm home south of Creston where he has resided for thirty seven years.
Home and family came first in his life. He was a member of the First Congregational church in Creston, where for several years he had served as a deacon. He was a good neighbor and a trusted friend of many. He was unselfish in all his dealings with his fellowman and his greatest satisfaction in life came from service to others. He was a devoted husband and a kind and loving father. Thought for his family he always placed above that for himself.
Relatives surviving are his faithful wife, three children, two grandsons, Robert Arthur and Vernon Lee Long, four brothers, one sister, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1951 at the Congregational church in Creston, with Rev. Leslie Barnette officiating. Interment was in Grove Chapel cemetery. Pall bearers were Fred Ide, Art Nord, Homer Harsh, Alf Francis, Earl Keefer and Wilton Johnston.
