Marie C. Degan South Boston Marie C. (Coyne) Degan, of South Boston, formerly of Squantum, passed away on Saturday, October 27 after a brief illness. Born in Boston, the daughter of Martin Coyne and Mary Jane Ball , Mrs. Degan was raised in South Boston and lived there for many years. She had resided in Squantum for 30 years. Mrs. Degan was a graduate of Nazareth High School, South Boston. She was a late member of The Sweet Adelines, the Boston Harbor Yacht Club and the Castle Island Assn., as well as a former member of the South Boston Mothers Club and the Squantum Garden Club. Beloved wife of 60 years, of William F. Degan (Col. U.S. Marine Corps., Ret.), she was the cherished mother of her two daughters & her late son, U.S. Marshal William F. Degan. She is also survived by, her sons-in law, a daughter-in-law, her five grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was the sister of the late Ellen Keegan, Agnes Casey, Rita Hewitt, Joseph, William & Frederick Coyne. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Brigid Church, South Boston on Saturday, November 3 at 10AM. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Friday, from 4 to 8PM. Interment will be at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
