In Aug 1867, Locust Grove Church was organized in Clinton County, KY and in Aug 1869, Simeon George (S.G.) Ashinhurst was named as one of the first deacons. In Nov 1881, S.G. Ashinhurst was elected as the second Clerk of the church and served for 10 years before moving to Texas with his family.

In 1880, S.G. Abinghurst (33) lived in Hays with wife Zora (27), and children: William C (10), Sarah C (8), Sophia (6), Thomas (3) and Joseph H (7 mos). His parents lived two households away.
