DeVerl was born Jan. 31, 1922, in a small two-room home on a farm in the Unity area of Burley, Idaho. He was a seven-month, four-pound baby, the fourth -3 child in a family of eight children, and born to Aaron Willey and Lydia McMurray Call.
His brothers and sisters were Dean M. Call, Merrill John Call, Wayne M. Call, Ray W. Call, Lois Call, Maxine Call and Oral Jay Call.
DeVerl's early youth was spent in Declo. He started school at the age of 5, being able to read and spell at that age. He graduated from Burley High School and went with his brothers to join the military. He was turned down and so he felt the only thing for him to do was to get married.
He married Lorna Bowen in 1942. To that marriage was born a daughter, Karen, who passed away a few hours after birth. The marriage ended in divorce.
DeVerl began his working days as a farmer, then worked in the furniture business selling, laying carpet and linoleum, and delivering furniture. He worked as an automobile salesman and eventually moved into the auto parts business. In 1974, he went to work at CSI in the vocational school's auto parts department. He retired from CSI in 1989, having finished his tenure at CSI in the bookstore.
DeVerl met Ida Merle Nielsen in 1970, and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on Oct 31, 1970. They spent 37 happy years together, enjoying the company of friends and family. They had many travel experiences and saw lots of places, people and things. DeVerl didn't travel to be educated but went for the fun and laughs along the way and for new experiences. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to have friends and family come to his home and enjoyed a good party. He was a fun host.
DeVerl was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served faithfully in many different capacities. He especially loved his teaching assignments.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Merle of Twin Falls; brother, Oral Jay (Jeanette) Call of Bountiful, Utah; his sister, Maxine Garner of Rexburg; sisters-in-law, Donna Call, Lorna Call and Vyla Call; brother-in-law, Al Knapp; and many, many nieces and nephews that he considered his "children."
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
