On Thursday November 14th, 2019 Ronald Giroux, loving husband and father, passed away at age 80 at home surrounded by his family. Ron was born in Waterville, Maine to the late Fernando and Doris Giroux. He attended Husson College in Bangor, Maine where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and tireless work ethic from a young age. It was this determination that led him to own and operate several successful IGA grocery stores, and lastly Handy Hardware in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Ron was a private pilot and took to the skies whenever possible. His love for flying was evident by the accumulation of over 5,000 flying hours. Although flying was his passion, his wife Ellen of 59 years, was the center of his life. They enjoyed family time at the lake house in Maine, playing golf together, and traveling.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Ellen and their children, Suzanne Porter, David (Lei Lonni) Giroux, Deborah Giroux, Elizabeth Giroux, and Amy (Scott) Beaver. Ron will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren and great grandson: Katelyn (Sean) Tucker, and great grandson Conor. Grant Zartman, Tim (Claire) Porter, Eric Zartman, Mackenzie Porter, Emma Van Wickler, Abigail Beaver, William Van Wickler and Samuel Giroux. He is also survived by his sisters, Jean (Mack) Dolowitz and Linda (Travis) Scogin.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, November 21st, 2019 at 1:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church, 111 Walnut Street Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania with Pastor Kevin Stout officiating.
There will be a time of fellowship following the services at the church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, it was Ron's wish that contributions be made in his name to the church's Meals on Wheels program. Donations should be sent directly to St. John Lutheran Church, Attention: Meals on Wheels 111 Walnut Street Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania 17007.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Rd., Carlisle, PA.
