Joe Villa, Jr., 84, Kansas City, passed away June 8, 2006, at Kingswood Manor in Kansas City. Masonic services followed by traditional funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, June 12, at the Park Lawn Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday evening at the chapel. Services will be officiated by Pastor Charles Funderburk of the First Baptist Church of Raytown. The youngest of 10 children, Joe was born October 19, 1921, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to Joe Villa Sr. and Amelia Zsalazar Villa. In the army, he served in the European theater of operations during WWII, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Following the war, he married Mattie L. Lucas on July 27, 1947 and they made their home in Kansas City. He was employed by General Motors, retiring in 1996. He was a member of UAW 31, Teamsters 541 and Sprinkler Fitters 314. He was also a member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Temple, the Scottish Rite, the Ararat Shrine and its Provost Club, VFW Post 869, Westport Commandry 68, Ancient Order of Camel Herders, Order of El Coyote and the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, as well as two grandsons, Sam Pingel and Joe Villa IV. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mattie Villa, of the home; son, Joe Villa III and his wife Cindy, Kansas City, Kan.; daughter Mary Pingel and her husband Tim, Cartersville, Ga.; grandsons Robert and wife Dolores, Michael, Tommy and Dan; granddaughters Vikki and Josie and granddaughter-in-law Rachel. Also surviving him are great-grandchildren Zachary, Sy, TJ, Olivia and Kenneth, as well as nieces Kay Lemons and Phyllis Denny and nephews James Wesley Williams and Troy Edward Williams. The family would like to extend a special thanks to friend and caretaker Shirley Vanluvan. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Crossroads Hospice, 9237 Ward Pkwy, Suite 300, KCMO 64138, or Children's Mercy Hospital, 2401 Gillham Road, KCMO 64108, or Kingswood Manor Health Center, 10000 Wornall Road, KCMO 64114.
