Services for John Pettit will be held Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 2 p. m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with President Dallas Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018, from 5 until 7 p.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pettit, 94, of De Kalb, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

A native of Centerville, UT, he was a resident of Alaska from 1952 until moving to Philadelphia in 1968. He was a longtime employee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs where he worked as a teacher and education specialist. Mr. Pettit served in the U. S. Army during WWII as an airplane mechanic. He was a former NAFRE member. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include
daughters, Pam Strum of Atlanta, GA, Susan Murphree of Cincinnati, OH, Delsa Sutton of DeKalb, MS, Wendy Pilgrim of DeKalb, MS; son, Barry Pettit of Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Wood and Leah Tingey, both of Utah; brothers, Richard Pettit and Bob Pettit, both of Utah; numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Mr. Pettit was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Joan Pettit; and his second wife, Charlotte Pettita and a brother Vern Pettit.
